Welcome to 2021 Sauk Prairie 12U/14U lacrosse!
The coaching staff for our 12U and 14U team have met to discuss how best to approach the upcoming season for these two teams. We currently have twelve 14U players and nine 12U players. Both of these levels play 10v10 so we don’t have enough players to have separate teams at these levels. 14U players “playing down” is not a good option since the league is very much opposed to this for safety reasons. There are safety issues also about 12U players “playing up” which we are concerned about also.
Our coaching team feels like we can provide a safe and productive practice environment for the players by practicing together. We will have 4-5 coaches at each practice (some of them experienced at the HS and College levels) and this will allow us to group players more by ability and teach and practice skills in a more personalized way. We are also working on how to set up games that will be competitive and fun. One option is playing small sided 14U only games vs opponents. When playing full-field vs 14U only opponents we will also reach out to our opposing teams to inform them of our situation. We expect that our opponents will be understanding and modify how they play against us to help ensure a fun and competitive experience for all players involved. We are also looking at scheduling games at the 12U level and bringing up players from our 10U team who are older and more experienced.
Feel free to reach out any of the coaches on our team or club leader, Bennett West, if you would like to discuss this further.
